Weather-Related Disasters

Preparing for the Worst

Thunderstorms can produce heavy rain, strong winds, lightning, hail and tornadoes. The National Weather Service, in cooperation with the broadcast media, releases watch and warning information for your area through NOAA All-Hazards Radio, local radio, and television. By listening to local media, you will know when a storm is approaching will know when you need to take protective action. Many local jurisdictions also offer automatic telephone warnings, but you must contact your local emergency management office to register.
